This is a 24x18 oil on canvas board. I love painting the Tetons, it is probably my favorite place to paint plein air. There is just something majestic about them. I have lived in the mountains my whole life and these still take my breath away.

This was painted out of my head. Since I'm getting into a gallery in Park City, I thought I should paint them some winter scenes. It is a 24x36 oil on canvas.

This was painted plein air in Wellsville, Utah. It was finished in the studio. It is 24x30 inches oil on canvas.

20 Minute Heel

This was a 20 minute study from reference. I think that the quick draws can teach you a lot in a short amount of time. So if you are ever busy, then try one, just to stay sharp. This is an 8x10 oil on canvas. I called it 20 Minute Heel, I know... creative title.

Serenity

This is a painting I started a long time ago. I have just been painting on it here and there for about a month now. It is a 30x40 oil on stretched canvas, painted from imagination. It is titled Serenity.

The leaves have turned in northern Utah and I'm really excited. I love to paint Autumn, so much natural beauty and color is easy to find. This painting was done in Williams Canyon in Idaho. It leads to the north shore of Bear Lake. It was kind of scary because I'm pretty sure something big was watching me paint it. I was by myself up the trail from the other artists and I kept hearing something large move behind me in the brush, but I couldn't see anything. Then I heard the Coyotes howling near me. So I painted very....very fast and went home to finish it in the studio. Despite the adventure, I think it came out okay.

This was painted a couple of weeks ago, before the leaves changed, in Mantua. I was having a hard time being inspired that morning, but I really loved the way the shadows ran across the face of this house, so I decided to make the shadows the focal point of the piece. I think it turned out cool, different from my norm. Always good to go outside the box sometimes.

Passing Through

This painting is titled Passing Through. It is a 20x24 oil on canvas. Started plein air in Mink Creek Idaho. I have really enjoyed painting in Mink Creek, but I think we are about done. It is a 45 minute drive, so unless we are really inspired we will stay a little closer to home. This is about the fifth painting from Mink Creek and a sixth is in the works. So we have kind of exhausted the material in such a little place. but Autumn is in the mountains now and moving down, so I'm excited to start some autumn paintings.

This painting is entitled Lazy Summer. It is a shot from Mink Creek Idaho. It is my favorite place to paint, everywhere you turn there is a painting to be painted. I kept looking at this scene and finding something beautiful about it, then I would pass it by and say "there is nothing interesting about a white barn." I'm glad I decided to paint it though, I think I captured whatever it was that made this scene so special.

This piece was started in Richmond and finished in the studio. We were shocked and inspired to paint because the Wellsville mountains were so shockingly blue.

The Dansante Show starts tomarrow, it will run through August with a formal reception on the 18th. I will show my work along with my brothers Jeff and Eric and my dad Kent Wallis.

I have been painting some portraits lately. I've been doing it for a couple of reasons. One; I feel the need to prove to myself and others that I am an artist and not just copying my father and two; I feel like I need something that is a serious challenge to teach me new things. I think this will accomplish those goals. I have done a couple, but this is the first one that I was confident enough to post.

I finally finished my main piece for Summerfest. This will be hanging front and center. It will be my most expensive piece. I hope everyone likes it, and most of all I hope it sells!

This is my first attempt at an upclose winter woods scene, I have titled it Winter Stream. It was started on site in Logan Canyon, but finished today in the studio. It is a 30x20 inch oil on stretched canvas. It was tough and it wore me out.

Saturday Plein-air

This was a farm in Preston Idaho. It was behind a house, we knock and nobody was there, so we made ourselves at home. It was a cold day and very overcast. I blocked my painting in fast, so I could add color when the light would poke through the clouds, It was a great old barn with a lot of character and really fun to paint. I must say, I can't wait for summer. I like painting in the warm, rather than the cold. It is a 20x24 oild on stretched canvas.

Saturday's painting

This painting was done in the backyard of a farm in Hyrum. I don't think the owners even knew I was back with their cows. It was such a muddy brown day that I looked for some color and found it in this old truck. It was a lot of fun to paint.

Tonight I was asked to be the featured artist as Summerfest this year. It is a nice honor, plus free advertising and a free booth. I'm excited, it should be a fun show.

First snowfall

Well it has snowed in Logan this morning. This means we will put our barn painting on hold for awhile. I think the plan is to head up into the mountains this winter, above the inversion and paint some winter woods scenes. That should be a fun challenge. We painted barns all last winter and since winter is so long in Cache Valley, we got pretty sick of winter barns. So we will do something interesting instead. On the bad days we will just stay in the studio and finish some of the summer barns we started this year. So that is the plan for now.

Plein-air painting has kind of slowed down with winter on the way and school in full swing. We did paint a week ago in Richmond, UT. When I finish the painting I will post a picture. The barn painting mentioned on August 5th is finished and I posted a picture below titled Franklin Barn.

Still painting in Franklin Idaho. I did a painting of an old white house last week, I think it will be a killer. Still working on the barn scene though.

Just painted plein air in Franklin, Idaho. A great barn that has probably been around since the 1800s or at least early 1900s. It was a lot of fun and I will post it as soon as it's done.
